Copper Care Guide
Essential Cleaning & Daily Care
Hand Wash Only: Always hand wash your copper products using a mild liquid detergent and a soft sponge. Never wash them in a dishwasher.
Avoid Harsh Chemicals: Strictly avoid any contact with bleach or harsh cleaning agents.
No Abrasives: Do not use hard sponges, steel wool, or abrasive scrubbers, as they can damage the delicate finish.
Dry Immediately: To ensure long-lasting use and prevent water spots, completely dry your item with a soft cloth immediately after washing.
Heat Precautions: Do not expose your copper pieces to extremely high heat.
Maintaining the Finish & Interior
Embracing the Patina: Due to the natural characteristics of copper, oxidation (tarnishing) may occur over time. This is a completely natural process and not a defect. Protecting your copper from moisture will help slow down this tarnishing.
Restoring the Shine: If your copper tarnishes and you prefer its original glow, you can gently clean the exterior using a specialized metal cleaner.
Tin-Lined Interiors: Depending on usage, the tin-lined interior may naturally take on the color of the foods or beverages it holds. To gently clean these stains, washing the interior with a little baking soda (bicarbonate of soda) is highly recommended.
Is Retinning Necessary?
Drinkware & Water Vessels: Because water is non-acidic, it does not erode the tin lining. Therefore, drinkware such as glasses, mugs, flasks, and pitchers will not require retinning.
Items Not Exposed to Fire: Any copper product that is not subjected to direct fire or stovetop heat does not need to be retinned.
Cookware (Exposed to Fire): For copper items that are regularly exposed to direct fire or heat, a periodic retinning process is recommended every 3 to 5 years to maintain peak performance and safety.
